One thing about which I have not yet heard is the observance of Lent in Japan. Is it a time of sackcloth and ashes, or do they remove the holy water from the stoups and replace it with a cactus?

I won’t be arriving there until just before Holy Week, so there’s a high chance I won’t get to see anything at all of Lent (there are almost no weekday masses, and I’m sure none in Kofu).

If anyone could fill me in I’d appreciate it. Links to photographs, articles (in English or Japanese) would be great.
